Want to win a $9,500 Santa Cruz MTB and help out the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz build new trails? Check out the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz’s (MBOSC) “Ante Up for Trails” campaign, where every $5 donated gets you one entry. Check out all the details below!

One lucky donor will ride away with a new $9,500 Santa Cruz bicycle in the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz’s (MBOSC) “Ante Up for Trails” campaign. Donors receive one entry for every $5 donated to the MBOSC between now and November 13 when a winner will be chosen. The winner then gets to pick the production Santa Cruz bicycle of their choice as the prize. Donations can be made at www.mbosc.org/anteup.

“MBOSC has already made some amazing progress for mountain biking in this area, and we’re stoked to support them with a bike for this campaign,” said Santa Cruz Bicycles COO Joe Graney, noting that a similar effort netted more than $40,000 for MBOSC last year. “Their plans to bring new singletrack and events to our hometown is great news for our employees, riders in the region, and riders from around the world who visit, tour our solar-powered bike factory, and ride the trails right out our front door.”

MBOSC continues to work towards its vision to make Santa Cruz County the premier place to be a
mountain biker through advocacy, trail construction, maintenance, and world-class cycling events. Some of the current projects include:
● New 30+ Mile Trail Network in San Vicente Redwoods: MBOSC took a leading role on the design of a 30+ mile trail network that is scheduled to begin construction in 2019.
● New Trails in Pogonip, Harvey West, and DeLaveaga Parks: MBOSC is working closely with the City of Santa Cruz to incorporate new mountain bike opportunities into city parks, including a directional downhill mountain-bike trail and new multi-use trails to improve connectivity.
● New Dirt Jumps and Pump Tracks: MBOSC is currently working with Santa Cruz County to bring a new dirt jump facility to the Farm Community Park in Soquel, and with the City of Watsonville to bring an asphalt pump track to Ramsay Park in the heart of Watsonville.

“Santa Cruz Bicycles has been pivotal in advocating for sustainable mountain biking here and around the world,” said MBOSC Marketing and Events Director Amanda Schaper. “They regularly contribute cash, product, and sweat equity to ensure the future of mountain biking, and we’re very thankful to have them as a partner as we work towards expanding sustainable trail access in the Santa Cruz area.”

Santa Cruz’s support of mountain biking is well documented with a recent contribution of $500,000 to the forthcoming San Vicente Redwoods open space near Davenport, Calif., $75,000 to the Stafford Lake Bike Park in Novato, Calif., $20,000 annually to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship in Downieville, Calif., and numerous other smaller cash and product contributions to trail projects around the globe.

The Ante Up for Trails campaign is open until 11:59pm on Monday, November 13.

Win a DreamSalvo NAHBS Bike

$

Want to win a FREE NAHBS bike built by Mike Desalvo? Check out this contest’s information and rules below!

“At the close of the NAHBS show last year I was talking with an industry friend and the question is always “will you be going to the show next year?” My thought was that I would go if I could take just one bike. The 2018 NAHBS is a distance from me and shipping a lot of bikes and show stuff is hard and expensive for a one-man operation. After the conversation I liked the idea of just taking one bike but then the question was, “what will I take?” This is how this how the dream bike contest came to be.”

So here is the deal – for NAHBS 2018 I will be taking just one bike and I need your help to decide what that bike will be. Is there a bike you have always wanted or a crazy idea you would like turned into a bike? Maybe a theme bike, like the Quadangle 29er or the Crater Lake bike? Will it be something different than I normally build or just a sweet ride for a deserving rider? It will have to be a project I feel I can execute well given the time constraints of the show. My goal is to have fun with this and I hope it will be fun for those who enter. So, tell me a story, draw me a picture, or make a video to illustrate all the details of your dream bike. If your design is my favorite of all the entries, I will build your idea into a bike and display the bike at the NAHBS 2018 show in mid-February. After the show it will be yours to ride and love at no cost to you.

Here are the rules:
* Only one entry per person PLEASE.
* Be creative and have fun!
* All entries must be submitted by mail or hand-delivered to DeSalvo Custom Cycles, 255 Helman St. Suite 3A, Ashland, OR 97520. Entries received via email, text, etc. will not be accepted.
* Be sure to include your name, address, phone number and e-mail with your entry so I can contact you if you’re the winner.
* If you are uncomfortable with me using your name, location, photos, or text from your entry on social media, please let me know.
* All entries must be postmarked by Nov.30th.
* I will start reviewing the entries early in December and make a decision on the winner. My decision will be final.
* The winning idea for a bike will be built and displayed at the NAHBS show and given to the person who submitted the idea after the show.

The Santa Cruz Bicycles: Back On Trail – A Trail Campaign for Santa Rosa and Santa Barbara

$

When disaster strikes, it’s great to see brands in the cycling industry come together for the greater good and in the case of our recent fires here in California, Santa Cruz Bicycles teamed up with a number of California-based companies on a month-long fundraising campaign. These brands include FOX, Shimano, White Industries and WTB, together their efforts will benefit the Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance (REMBA) and the Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers (SBMTV), who will each spearhead reconstruction efforts in their respective regions.

Enter at BackonTrail.org, see the full details and more photos of these beautiful Santa Cruz Bicycles below!

SANTA CRUZ, CALIF. –  Santa Cruz Bicycles has mobilized a joint effort of California bicycle industry suppliers and mountain bike advocates to create the “Back On Trail” campaign to fund trail reconstruction projects in the wake of recent large-scale wildfires in Santa Rosa and Santa Barbara, Calif.

A pair of fire-rescue-themed bikes equipped by California-based companies Santa Cruz Bicycles, FOX, Shimano, White Industries and WTB have been created as prizing for the month-long fundraising campaign that will benefit the Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance (REMBA) and the Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers (SBMTV) who will each spearhead reconstruction efforts in their respective regions.

Santa Cruz Bicycles graphic designer Campbell Steers drew inspiration from CalFire firefighting equipment as inspiration for the custom graphics and build spec for the pair of Santa Cruz Hightower LTs that donors to the Back On Trail campaign can win. The red version takes graphic cues from a fire truck, while the white version draws inspiration from a CalFire helicopter.

“We talked to our shops, reps and customers in the areas affected by the fires and above all they expressed a real desire for a return to normalcy,” said Santa Cruz CEO Joe Graney. “We all know how a good bike ride makes you feel, and we want to help people get back to that.”

Entries to win the bikes are available by making donations at backontrail.org—with one entry being assigned for every $5 donated. The campaign runs the entire month of February with the two winners chosen on March 1.

The Santa Cruz Hightower LT dons fire truck-inspired “Firetower LT” livery for the Back On Trail campaign to benefit trail reconstruction in California’s wildfire impacted areas.

California fire-rescue-themed bikes

Using firefighting equipment as the inspiration, Santa Cruz created two custom-painted bikes—one based on a fire engine, and one based on a CalFire helicopter—in tribute to the efforts of firefighters to contain the blazes and limit their damage. The bikes—each valued at $10,000—feature not only custom graphics, but a custom parts spec from California-based companies.

Petaluma-based White Industries is located closest to the fire zone and supplied the cranks, bottom bracket, hubs and headsets for the bikes; Scotts Valley-based FOX supplied forks, shocks and dropper posts; Irvine-based Shimano supplied brakes, shifters, derailleurs and cassettes; and Mill Valley-based WTB supplied tires and saddles. The parts will be mounted to Santa Cruz Hightower LT frames and the wheels built up using Santa Cruz Reserve carbon rims.

Live kickoff events, bike viewings

Santa Rosa’s Trailhouse will host a kickoff party on Friday, February 2 from 6-11 pm which will include raffles and giveaways from Santa Cruz and other sponsors. The event will also be an opportunity to see the bikes in person as they will go on display in Trailhouse’s windows at the party and stay there for the following two weeks.

On the 18th, the bikes will be moved to the Topa Topa Brewery in Santa Barbara for a similar party and subsequent bike display.

“The display bikes are hand-painted graphic samples that look really good,” said Campbell Steers, the designer behind the bikes. “But the prize bikes will be made at the factory in the size of the winners’ choosing and they will look even more dialed.”

Trails that benefit

REMBA has identified trail restoration projects in Trione-Annadel State Park as well as at Skyline Wilderness Park as the focus of their efforts, while SBMTV’s project encompass multiple restoration projects in their area. These include including the assessment and repair of front range Santa Barbara area trails heavily impacted by the Thomas Fire and subsequent debris sides; the restoration of the historic Santa Cruz (“Little Pine”) and Buckhorn Trails which have were damaged in prior fires; and working with the Los Padres National Forest to restore and optimize the Snyder Trail (“Knapp’s Castle”) which was bulldozed to create a fire break.

The prize drawing will be at 1pm PST on March 1, 2018. The winners will be posted as soon as they are confirmed thereafter. Although both REMBA and SBMTV carry 501(c)(3) non-profit status, donations are not tax deductible per IRS declaration wherein ticket purchases for valuable prizes are not eligible for charitable tax deductions.

Ante Up For Trails and Take Home a Brand New Ibis! #anteupfortrails

$

It’s that time of year again! After last year’s Ante Up For Trails campaign, put on by the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz, it returns, this time with an Ibis being the grand prize. Enter at MBOSC and read the full press-release below!

One lucky donor will ride away with a new $9,500 Ibis bicycle in the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz’s (MBOSC) “Ante Up for Trails” campaign. Donors receive one entry for every $5 donated to the MBOSC between now and May 29 when a winner will be chosen. The winner then gets to pick the production Ibis bicycle of their choice as the prize. Donations can be made at www.mbosc.org/anteup.

“We have witnessed MBOSC gain momentum as they work to improve trail access in Santa Cruz,” said Ibis Founder Scot Nicol. “Their recent growth and success has been impressive, and they’ve clearly cultivated great relationships with local land managers. All of us at Ibis are proud to support MBOSC, and we are eager to ride new trails that can be built as a result of the Ante Up for Trails campaign. We look forward to sending a bike to the lucky winner!” MBOSC continues to work towards its vision to make Santa Cruz County the premier place to be a mountain biker through advocacy, trail construction, maintenance, and world-class cycling events. Some of the current project updates include:
● Three Miles of New Trail in Scotts Valley: Three miles of new public multi-use trails are coming to the Glenwood Open Space Preserve in Scotts Valley. These trails will provide local schools and the community a new resource for recreation and connection with the environment. The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, responsible for stewarding the property, has partnered with MBOSC to perform the trail design and construction. Construction began on April 25, 2018 and is planned to be completed by mid-June.
● New Trail Reroute in Wilder Ranch: MBOSC has received full approval for the West Engelsmans
Reroute at Wilder Ranch. MBOSC will be working with CA State Parks to decommission the badly
eroded West Engelsmans Fire Road and replace it with just over a mile of sustainably built trail. Through their fundraising efforts, MBOSC will be covering their own costs for this project and paying for State Parks staff time and expenses. Construction is scheduled for the fall of 2018.
● New 30+ Mile Trail Network in San Vicente Redwoods: MBOSC took a leading role on the design of a 30+ mile trail network in the San Vicente Redwoods. Recently the partners managing this property have successfully worked through their public access planning process and are moving forward with submitting their plan to Santa Cruz County for approval this spring. This means the new trail network is one step closer to becoming a reality.

“Ibis Cycles and MBOSC have been longtime partners working to expand and promote sustainable trail access in the Santa Cruz area,” said MBOSC Marketing and Events Director Amanda Schaper. “We are thrilled to have their support through advocacy campaigns, trail construction and maintenance projects, event sponsorship, and volunteer appreciation. Our progress on bringing more trails to Santa Cruz wouldn’t be possible without Ibis’ continued support, and we are grateful to have them behind the MBOSC mission.”

In 2013 Ibis and MBOSC launched Own the Flow, a fundraising campaign that coincided with the original Ripley release, which raised over $40,000 towards construction of the legendary Flow Trail at Soquel Demonstration State Forest. In 2017 Ibis and MBOSC launched the first ever Ante Up for Trails fundraising campaign, which raised a record-breaking $60,000 for trails in Santa Cruz.

The current Ante Up for Trails campaign is open until 11:59pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
